چکیده

We examine effects on primordial nucleosynthesis from a truly random spatial distribution in the baryon-to-photon ratio (η). We generate stochastic fluctuation spectra characterized by different spectral indices and root-mean-square fluctuation amplitudes. For the first time we explicitly calculate the effects of baryon diffusion on the nucleosynthesis yields of such stochastic fluctuations. We also consider the collapse instability of large-mass-scale inhomogeneities. Our results are generally applicable to any primordial mechanism producing fluctuations in η which can be characterized by a spectral index. In particular, these results apply to primordial isocurvature baryon fluctuation (PIB) models. The amplitudes of scale-invariant baryon fluctuations are found to be severely constrained by primordial nucleosynthesis. However, when the η distribution is characterized by decreasing fluctuation amplitudes with increasing length scale, surprisingly large fluctuation amplitudes on the baryon diffusion scale are allowed. Nucleosynthesis in the Presence of Primordial Isocurvature Baryon Fluctuations

We study big bang nucleosynthesis in the presence of large mass-scale, non-linear entropy fluctuations. Overdense regions, with masses above the local baryon-Jeans mass, are expected to collapse and form condensed objects. Surviving nucleosynthesis products therefore tend to originate from underdense regions. We compute expected surviving light element (H, He, He, Li) abundance yields for a var...

Baryon/anti-baryon inhomogeneity and big bang nucleosynthesis

We investigate the effects of baryon/anti-baryon inhomogeneity on primordial nucleosynthesis. Recent work claims that electroweak baryogenesis could give rise to distinct regions of net baryon and anti-baryon number, which could survive until the nucleosynthesis epoch. We discuss neutron diffusion effects on nucleosynthesis yields in these models and speculate on the prospects for obtaining con...

Large Scale Baryon Isocurvature Inhomogeneities

Big bang nucleosynthesis constraints on baryon isocurvature perturbations are determined. A simple model ignoring the effects of the scale of the perturbations is first reviewed. This model is then extended to test the claim that large amplitude perturbations will collapse, forming compact objects and preventing their baryons from contributing to the observed baryon density. It is found that ba...

Non-Gaussianity and Baryonic Isocurvature Fluctuations in the Curvaton Scenario

We discuss non-Gaussianity and baryonic isocurvature fluctuations in the curvaton scenario, assuming that the baryon asymmetry of the universe originates only from the decay products of the inflaton. When large non-Gaussianity is realized in such a scenario, non-vanishing baryonic isocurvature fluctuations can also be generated unless the baryogenesis occurs after the decay of the curvaton. We ...

Universal Lepton Asymmetry: New Constraints from the Cosmic Microwave Background and Primordial Nucleosynthesis

We study the primordial nucleosynthesis and cosmic age in the presence of a net lepton asymmetry as well as baryon asymmetry. We explore a previously unnoted region of the parameter space in which very large baryon densities 0.1 ≤ Ωb ≤ 1 can be accommodated within the light-element constraints from primordial nucleosynthesis. This parameter space consists of νμ and ντ degeneracies with a small ...
